Every child deserves to feel safe in school. Yet, for thousands of children with allergies, the classroom can be a life-threatening environment due to inadequate safeguards. We believe no child should suffer an avoidable allergic reaction or come to unnecessary harm because of a lack of preparedness. That’s why we’re calling on MPs to support Benedict’s Law—a vital initiative to make mandatory allergy safety measures a legal requirement in all UK schools.
What is Benedict’s Law?
Benedict’s Law is a campaign advocating for:
✅ Mandatory allergy policies in all schools to ensure school staff are clear on allergy management and emergency response protocols in the school.
✅ Individual Healthcare Plans for every child with allergy to communicate their needs
✅ Staff training on allergy awareness and anaphylaxis management and emergency response to prevent and handle allergic reactions effectively.
✅ Emergency adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) in every school to provide immediate life-saving treatment when needed.
✅ Transparent reporting to help schools learn.
Why is this urgent?
🔴 1 in 5 fatal food-allergic reactions in children occur at school.
🔴 70% schools do not have all recommended allergy safeguards in place
🔴 Half of schools do not hold spare lifesaving allergy medication
We cannot allow another preventable tragedy to occur due to a failure in policy and preparedness.
How MPs Can Take Action
By signing this pledge, MPs commit to:
🔹 Champion Benedict’s Law in Parliament.
🔹 Support legislation ensuring all schools have allergy action plans and emergency medication.
🔹 Advocate for national funding for staff training and medical resources.
🔹 Engage with local schools, parents, and campaigners to improve allergy safety.
As signatories, MPs can take the first step to show their support for the pledge by taking a photo with a pledge card. The Benedict Blythe Foundation team can also provide a full toolkit, including other ways parliamentarians can support.
